“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.” Psalm 37:23………………….
You may think you’re helping. You may think you’re needed. You may think you’re there for a reason. For a purpose. That you are the right person. That nobody else can do what you’re doing. That the person standing in front of you needs you. That something needs to be done that only you can do. Or that you’re one of the people anyway. And that you simply must be there. In that situation. In that circumstance. Whatever it is. Wherever it is. With whomever it may be. Oh, how you long to get the job done. To do a good job with it. Or with him. Or her. Or them. You may feel desperate. This simply must be fixed. Must be addressed. Now. Right now. And you assume you’ve been called to the task. That you’re the one. You’re THE ONE.
Whether it’s easy or indescribably hard, or fun or not at all, or challenging or a piece of cake, or comfortable or the most uncomfortable thing you’ve ever experienced, or stress-free or the most stressful situation you ever remember being in, or any number of other things. But the point is this. You’re utterly entirely totally completely fully convinced that there is no other way. You’ve got to stick around. You’ve got to press on. To persevere. To endure. To not quit. To do the job, and do it well. Because this is your job. Now. So there you are. But –
But? Yes, but. But what if you’re STANDING IN THE WAY? What if you’re STANDING IN THE WAY of the Lord? What if in fact He has NOT called you there, to this situation or person or people? Or what if He called you there once upon a time but no longer wants you there? What if you’re doing no more than STANDING IN THE WAY of whatever it is the Lord wants to do, whomever it is He wants to send, whatever it is He has planned? What if the very most important thing you do in this situation is to GET OUT OF THE LORD’S WAY? Is it possible this is exactly what He’s been trying to tell you?
I can honestly tell you one of the most shocking, humbling, and convicting things I’ve ever heard from the Lord when it comes to situations I’ve been in is this. YOU’RE STANDING IN THE WAY. What exactly does He mean when He tells us this? What did He mean, and does He mean, when He tells me this? He is telling me, and us I believe, that HE IS LORD, HE IS GOD, HE IS SOVEREIGN, HE IS ALL KNOWING AND ALL POWERFUL, HE HAS THE PERFECT PLAN AND PURPOSE, THE PERFECT TIMING, HE KNOWS WHAT’S BEST, HE KNOWS WHERE HE WANTS US AND WHEN HE DOESN’T WANT US, AND HE KNOWS THAT WHEN WE’RE STANDING IN THE WAY, WE’RE STANDING IN HIS WAY, AND WHEN WE’RE STANDING IN HIS WAY, THE VERY SITUATION IN WHICH WE THINK WE MAY BE HELPING, OR ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING ANYWAY, MAY IN FACT BE THE VERY SITUATION IN WHICH WE ARE BLOCKING HIM, AND OTHERS, FROM DOING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IN GOD’S SOVEREIGN PLAN FOR GOD’S ALMIGTHY GLORY!
Please be careful. I have such a phenomenally intimate and close relationship with the Lord God almighty through Christ now, and am so ever seeking Him, am so ever in His Word, am so ever listening, and at long last am so willing to hear and obey Him as best I possibly can in His strength for His glory, that I hear Him so clearly I can hear the very words His Spirit speaks to my heart. And these words have come not once, but a number of times over. And these very words may not be words for me alone. Perhaps they are for you also.
YOU’RE STANDING IN THE WAY.
How do you know if you’re standing in His way? You either already know right now already, and this message is simply being used by God to confirm what you already know – and need to do. Or you need to seek Him in prayer, to seek Him in daily study of His Word and time spent with Him, to wait on Him to answer, to seek godly counsel from Christ followers if His Spirit so leads you, and to hear Him, and to obey Him, not for you, but for His glory.
Can you imagine what happens when we GET OUT OF THE WAY? We become available to the Lord to be where He wants us, most importantly in close communion with Him, we step out of the way of whomever the Lord might want to send to help, and most importantly of all we yield to the Lord in such a way that He is now able to fully execute the plan He had all along without our messing up His plan by getting in the way with our fleshly motives and our fleshly plans.
May all of us who are right now, or will ever be, standing in the way of the Lord, may we humbly repent of being in the wrong place and come into full obedience to the Lord in love for Him, in honor of Him, in reverence of Him, and in loving humble trusting adoration of Him! It takes FAITH, and LOVE for and TRUST in the Lord to step out of the way. May we grow in His image, may we grow in our faith in and love for Him, and may we ever strive to live to love and worship and serve and obey Him forevermore AMEN!
