“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13
Today’s world seems at times and in ways very focused on a “you CAN do it” and a “we CAN do it” and an “I CAN do it” and even like in the famous Nike ad a “Just Do It” mentality that goes along with the thinking that if we can just muster up enough strength, and have just the right positive attitude, and say the perfect combination of affirmations, and have cheerleaders and encourage-rs yelling out alongside us, well, yes, of course, we CAN do it. We can do just about anything – as long as we set our mind to it. Just get enough of that ole’ willpower, and of course, absolutely, we CAN do whatever. Sometimes, as I have found in my own experience, this worldly mentality, though it certainly can serve its purpose in terms of encouraging a positive attitude, can be totally dangerous and do nothing more than get in the way of what it is that we need to do. Maybe you can relate looking at some of your past experiences, or maybe you can relate right now. In fact, maybe you need this message as a reminder of something we can’t afford to forget. Maybe you need to be reminded because of something you’re facing even right now.
The Lord wants us to TRUST IN HIM, to DEPEND ON HIM, to LOOK TO HIM, to live according to HIS WAYS, in HIS STRENGTH, for HIS GLORY, and we need to HUMBLY acknowledge that our human strength is NOTHING compared with the STRENGTH OF GOD, and to HUMBLY surrender totally to the Lord and SEEK HIS WILL and HIS STRENGTH and realize IN CHRIST’s LOVE, in CHRIST’s STRENGTH, for GOD’s GLORY, we can do whatever it is that HE DESIRES for HIS PLANS and HIS PURPOSE on HIS TIMETABLE to ultimately BRING HIM PRAISE AND HONOR.
We can try all we want in our puny human strength, and we may even get a little way, or even pretty far. But nothing, absolutely nothing compares to God’s glorious strength, and because we are to live for God’s glory and not for our own, and because we need to TRUST IN GOD and not in ourselves, the very greatest service we can do for Him, for ourselves, and even for others, is to ADMIT we are NOTHING WITHOUT JESUS and to lay aside the self-striving and PUT OUR FAITH IN JESUS, yield ourselves utterly to Him, and do whatever God gives us to do IN HIS STRENGTH – TO BRING HIM GLORY!
If you’ve been struggling in your everyday life with something, with anything at all, and you’re clear it’s God’s will rather than your own, that you will be in obedience to God by doing it and not rebellion against Him, HUMBLY ADMIT you CAN’T DO IT without God – and surrender yourself wholly to Him.
God WILL give us HIS STRENGTH to do what HE DESIRES so the GLORY GOES TO GOD! We CAN do GOD’S WILL in HIS STRENGTH for HIS GLORY, AMEN!
