Why God Warned Me

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“You have assumed _____ is my will for you because that is what’s easy for you,” the Lord spoke to my heart. “Be careful with assumptions.”

I had been praying and praying about a certain matter and done exactly that. Made an assumption. Only to discover my assumption just happened to be what would be easiest for me. It’s what made the most sense. And, though it may well have been the Lord’s will, that wasn’t the point.

The Lord doesn’t want us to make decisions based on our assumptions – let alone on what makes us happiest, what pleases us most, what is easiest and most comfortable, what makes the most sense in our limited human minds, etc. He wants us to make decisions based on HIS WILL because HE IS LORD.

The Lord had unraveled for me that day something crucial I needed to examine. Now that I was out on the road full-time for Him and my ministry work, how often was I being tempted to make decisions based on what I assumed? On what I assumed to be His will simply because it seemed the most obvious to me or was the most comfortable? But this wasn’t merely something I needed to consider regarding my life on the road for Him. It was something I needed to consider regarding my life in general.

And something I encourage you to examine regarding your life as well. For sometimes we assume something to be God’s will simply because it’s easy, comfortable, palatable, brings us pleasure, makes us happy, makes us feel secure, pleases us, is what others think we should do, is what seems to be the right answer, because of our current circumstances, based on our fears and worries, because it’s what presents itself the most quickly, etc.

But what we need to consider above all else is this. We are not to live for self. We are to live for Christ. What is GOD’S WILL? What is HIS DESIRE? What brings HIM PLEASURE AND JOY? What will BRING GOD GLORY? What does HIS WORD SAY because all that we do needs to be in line and conformity to HIS WORD THE BIBLE.

Sometimes we are so impatient to know God’s will, or so uncomfortable with facing a decision, or so convinced what we see must be what the Lord desires, or anything else for that matter in the way of ASSUMING we know God’s will that we are unwilling to seek the Lord, wait until we hear the Lord, and obey the Lord NO MATTER THE COST TO OUR FLESH and NO MATTER HIS ANSWER as to what HIS WILL IS for HIS GLORY and HIS NAME’S SAKE.

Please do not make assumptions based on your human flesh regarding your decisions. Please base your decisions on God and His Word – all for His glory, hallelujah. Amen!
