“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1
Know what happened one day when I commented to someone with whom I crossed paths about all the seemingly never ending day after day of rain? The person immediately responded how fortunate we were the weather was so warm. Instead of just dealing with the rain, the person said, we could have also had really cold weather. Want to know something? I was so caught up in the rain I didn’t like that I neglected to acknowledge and thank God for the incredibly warm winter weather especially given the fact I am very sensitive to cold and I was so very blessed to have been sent by God to the warmer Florida climate for a season to do my ministry work. I simply couldn’t see past the rain! My focus was on the rain, rain, rain!
This message isn’t about rain and sunshine and warm and cold and weather, though, my friend. It’s about what happens when we can’t see past the stuff we don’t like, when we can’t see past the clouds and rain in our lives, when we can’t see beyond the storms of life, when all we can see is the uncomfortable, the inconvenient, the disruptive, the interference, the distractions, the troubles, trials, tribulations, hardships, hurdles, disappointments and discouraging and depressing things in life.
When we are so focused on what we don’t want and can’t stand, what we dislike and even hate, that we miss ALL OF THE LORD’S COUNTLESS BLESSINGS HE BESTOWS UPON US DAY AFTER DAY MOST IMPORTANTLY A FOREVER RELATIONSHIP WITH HIMSELF WHEN WE TURN AWAY FROM A LIFESTYLE OF SIN AND BELIEVE IN CHRIST AS LORD WHO DIED TO PAY OUR SIN PENALTY AND WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD.
The Lord’s blessings are endless, aren’t they? Everything from His death and resurrection on the cross so all who truly devote their lives to Him through repentance and faith will be in His forever fellowship to a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day to God’s love, mercy, grace, hope, joy, peace, and forgiveness He gives His followers to having food to eat and clean water to drink, from the indescribably big to the indescribably small, His blessings go on and on.
But when we become consumed with ourselves and fall into self-pity, negativity, whining, complaining, etc., oh how we miss the goodness and wonder and glory and grace and kindness and graciousness and generosity and on and on of the Lord most high. I have a lifetime habit of falling into negativity, and day by day I have to strive to get my heart and eyes focused on the Lord, His Word, His will and ways, His plan and purpose, and His unfathomable ongoing blessings.
Friend, we are to be thankful! Thankful! To praise and worship and glorify God continually. No matter what. Unconditionally. Because He is Lord and God. And He is good, so good, without fail, forever!
I have allowed the sunshine in my life to be stolen time and again by focusing on the clouds and rain. There is no more glorious sunshine than the shining of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, Lord forever. And oh, how fabulous, how fantastic, how phenomenal is the Lord, His Word, and all the blessing after blessing He pours down upon us!
Praise the Lord, friend! Don’t allow the sunshine to be stolen. Even on the rainiest of days, and the rainiest seasons in our lives, our hearts can be filled with thanksgiving and our mouths filled with praise when we turn our focus to God almighty in Christ, AMEN!
