When God HAS Spoken

“Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be  glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21

“Speak to my heart!” I exclaimed silently to the Lord.

“What makes you think I have not?” His Spirit replied immediately. Not audibly. In my heart. The same place from which I had spoken to Him.

“I don’t like the answer,” I said readily. Like He didn’t already know.

As though that would change God’s mind. His heart. His will. Of course, it would not. It didn’t matter what I thought about His answer. Of course it didn’t. He is God! Lord! King! Savior! He does not exist to give me the answers I desire.

“I have already told you what I want you to do,” He essentially spoke.

I knew He had. And He was right, as He always is. I had a different answer in mind. I had asked Him what He wanted me to do regarding somewhere I contemplated going. Somewhere I in fact wanted to go. He had told me He didn’t want me to go and what He wanted me to do instead.

So what had I done? Waited a few minutes. Then gone back to Him. Seeking Him like He hadn’t already responded. So I could get my way. So I could convince myself He wanted what I wanted. But He didn’t. He wanted what He wanted. He always does. He is God! He is Lord! He is King! He is Savior! He is almighty! He is Creator! He is sovereign!

And I had long since learned obedience is obedience. It’s not about what we want or how we feel; it’s about Jesus Christ is Lord, and we need to live our lives as such. Like He is Lord. Because He is!

I knew what I wanted to do. But more importantly, I knew what I needed to do. Submit to Him. Trust Him. Love Him. Humbly obey Him. Not to satisfy my flesh and what I desired. To please God because He’s my greatest desire. Most importantly, because He’s my Lord!

Do you ever find yourself going back to God for a different answer? Convincing yourself what He’s already told you isn’t what He’s told you? Trying to convince God that your way is the best way? Trying to make Him conform to you? His will to your will?

That’s not the way to go, my friend.

There’s only one right way to go. The way of the Lord. Because, plain and simple, JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! Forever and ever, HE IS LORD! His answer is ALWAYS the right way to go! If we have heard Him, and we are clear, there’s no need to go back to Him for a different answer. When God has spoken, He has spoken. When we have heard, we have heard. When He has spoken, and we have heard, we know what to do. Submit ourselves to Him and His will.

Obey, my friend, we must obey!
