Strength for the Moment

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10

I started this very long day of packing everything up to prepare for my next two moves for ministry work, one right after another, with the Lord giving me the message about needing, seeking, and receiving His strength day by day only to discover the Lord in His usual incredibly creative way of placing messages on my heart wanted to take me a big step further when it comes to HIS STRENGTH.

Not too far into the day the Lord led me to lug a narrow twin sized memory foam mattress (i.e. not as heavy as a regular mattress nevertheless big and awkward and definitely having some weight to it) up my six-floor walk-up apartment building to pass it along to an elderly man I sensed could use it. I’m in pretty good shape from lots of walking outdoors, but stairs are another matter.

Over and again, I had to stop and catch my breath. And give my legs a break. And arms. That’s when it came to me. More accurately, that’s when the Spirit of God moved on my heart with this message. Sometimes we need to go literally moment by moment in needing, seeking, and receiving His strength.

Whether it be a physical, emotional, or spiritual challenge, sometimes dealing with the challenges of an entire day are too much to even consider. And strength for the whole day is more than we need to consider. What we really need, He reminded me as I went up all those steps, is to cry out to Him STEP BY STEP, no pun intended, to ask for His strength to carry on.

That’s exactly what I did climbing those stairs. Not just once, but multiple times, I sought the Lord to help me get to my destination.

Friend, no matter what you’re facing, and no matter the destination the Lord wants to take you, if an entire day feels like too much to bear, let alone a week, month, or year or years, why not just consider this one moment. And cry out to the Lord for the strength you need to take one step at a time – the steps He ordains for you as His Spirit blessedly and lovingly and mercifully leads you forth!
