And He delights in his way.” Psalm 37:23
“Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5
“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:” Eccl. 3:1
“Stay until I tell you to go,” the Spirit of God spoke to my heart.
Why did I need to hear that? I knew the Lord was sending me to my next location for my ministry work. Wasn’t that enough instruction? I knew what I needed to do. Pack up my stuff and dogs and go, right? Shouldn’t I get started forward? No. Why?
Because the Lord not only has His perfect will, but He has His perfect timing for His perfect purpose for His perfect glory! And just because the Lord speaks to our hearts what His will regarding somewhere He is taking us, or something or someone to which and to whom He is leading us, no matter what His will concerning anything and anyone in our future, HE HAS HIS PERFECT TIME.
And some of us like myself who tend to move quickly forward in life have to be careful NOT to move ahead of the Lord’s leading.
Is the Lord speaking to your heart about something or someone to which He has called you? To a new location? New job? New church? New relationship? New house? New hobby? New ministry opportunity? New person to share the Gospel with? New school? To something different? To a different path? To making a decision about something or someone? To the next step in what He has been unfolding in your life?
If He is, please don’t run out of the starting gate before His Spirit makes clear it’s time to take the next step.
Sometimes He leads us to take the next step right now. Or tomorrow. Sometimes He places on our hearts His will for something far down the road and doesn’t want us to head in that direction until He has prepared us – or prepared others. Sometimes there are many steps to take between where we are and where He is leading us. Sometimes He’s already prepared us, and we simply need to pack up and go. No matter the details of God’s will, we need to submit not just to His will – but also to His timing.
The Lord will make clear when He wants us to go. To move forward. To make the change. To move on. To press ahead.
So what should we do in the meantime? Seek Him! Seek Him! Seek Him! Pray! Pray! Pray! Study the Bible! Study the Bible! Study the Bible! Grow in our relationship with Him! Be further conformed to Him! Draw closer to Him! Continually purify ourselves. Repent when we need to. Spend alone time with Him. Surround ourselves with His followers who can love, encourage us, pray for us, and help us apply the Bible to our lives. Yearn to be led by His Spirit. Ask for fresh fillings of His Spirit. Listen for His voice. Follow His lead. Stay until He tells us to go. And, when it’s time to go, go forth led by His loving blessed Spirit in His almighty splendorous strength for His heavenly everlasting glory, AMEN!
