His Sin Was Too Big for God

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3

“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

““You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3

“And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” Colossians 1:18

You’re not God. Of course you already know that. But something drew you here. To read this. And something drew me to write this. I’m not God either. Of course I already know this. But is it possible that the something that drew you to read this and me to write this is God – and that He has a vitally important message for you and I to hear?

If the truth be told, as much as we KNOW we’re not God, we sometimes act and think and feel and talk like we are. Oh, this can be in incredibly subtle ways. So subtle, in fact, we may not even be aware of it. Or it may be in very obvious ways. So obvious, in fact, that there is simply no excuse for not immediately repenting and humbling ourselves before the one true God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Sometimes the way we try to orchestrate our lives, and the lives of others, sometimes the way we think we know what’s best for us and even for others, sometimes the way we are certain we know the future, sometimes the way we feel like nobody is as smart as we are, like nobody else gets things right the way we do, sometimes the words we speak to others like we’re the be all, end all, sometimes the actions we take like we have preeminence, like we matter most, like we are in charge of the world around us, are not all these examples of making ourselves into little gods and lords of our lives and the lives of others?

Friend, let’s pay attention to our words, feelings, thoughts, and actions. Let’s be open to the possibility we have some humbling ourselves to do. Let’s be willing to humble ourselves before God almighty in repentance. Let’s be open to God’s conviction and correction.

Let’s be careful as we go forward in how we conduct the lives God has given us and in how we interact with others. Let’s be exceedingly careful to remember and acknowledge and bow down to and seek, hear, and obey the one true God. The Lord Jesus Christ – who will reign forever!

We are not only NOT God. We are absolutely nothing without the Lord! May Christ be exalted forevermore! May He be given the preeminence! May God be glorified everlastingly! May the Lord be given the praise, honor, and forever glory He is due! AMEN!
