Should I Quit?

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 3:12-14

Just when the Lord is moving me forward in ministry like never before, and growing the ministry with which He has entrusted me like never before, and, for that matter, growing me like never before, just when the ministry is more in need of financial support than ever before, not only are exceedingly few people overall stepping forward in response to my requests for help in the way of donations and monthly sponsorship, but over time it seems more have fallen away.

I continue to strive to not dip into emergency personal savings that are set aside for the Lord’s will, so you can only imagine the monthly, let alone daily, budget for the ministry not to mention myself. The obvious thing to do, the common sense thing to do, the natural thing to do, the dime store psychology thing to do, the rational thing to do, the thing to do according to what I see in my flesh, well, you know, don’t you?

Quit. I should quit! I should shut down the ministry and get a “real job”. I should take my college degree education, redo my resume from long ago, the one I haven’t used in years, and go find some well paying job with good benefits, turn my back on the Lord and His will for my life, find the most comfortable, easy, high paying, reputable, climb-the-corporate-ladder kind of job and be done with it. With this ministry thing. With God’s will. After all, I should be living the American dream, right? And the American dream most assuredly wouldn’t condone following Jesus, living by faith, living by trusting in God, living led by God’s Spirit, living according to God’s will, living for God’s glory, right?

My friend, this isn’t about me. Herein is a message for you, and for me, and for every single person on this earth. WE SHOULD NEVER QUIT ANYTHING AT ANY TIME UNLESS IT’S THE WILL OF THE LORD. WE SHOULD NEVER QUIT SOMETHING SIMPLY AND SOLELY AND ONLY BASED ON WHAT WE THINK, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, WHAT IT FEELS LIKE, WHAT OTHERS SAY, OUR COMFORT, OUR HAPPINESS, ITS POPULARITY, ETC.

OUR PRIMARY REASON IF WE QUIT ANYTHING SHOULD BE IN OBEDIENCE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD ALMIGHTY. IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD, THE BIBLE. BECAUSE GOD SAYS SO. WHEN GOD SAYS SO. FOR GOD. FOR CHRIST. FOR THE LORD. FOR HIS GLORY. TO BRING HIM LOVE, HONOR, PRAISE, GLORY, SERVICE, ADORATION, AND WORSHIP. TO REVERE AND BLESS GOD. TO BRING HIM JOY AND PLEASURE. TO SATISFY CHRIST. TO GLORIFY JESUS. IF AND ONLY IF IT IS HIS WILL FOR US TO QUIT!

If we’re wondering if we need to quit something, there’s one who holds the answer. His name is Jesus. Christ. Lord. Forever. If the Lord wants us to quit, He will show us, He will tell us, He will let us know – whether speaking by His Spirit directly to our hearts, whether through His Word (and everything He speaks to us will ALWAYS line up with His Word), and/or whether through godly counsel from strong biblically grounded Christ followers.

When God calls us to quit, to stop, to leave something or someone behind, to move on, to press forward, to say goodbye to something or someone, to bring closure to something, or to a relationship, then there’s one thing we must do. Quit. But only because HE SAYS SO. FOR HIM.

Never should we quit when it’s NOT the will of the Lord to quit. No matter what. When it’s the Lord’s will to persevere, we need to carry on. Press on. Keep walking forward as His Spirit leads us.

I am 100% clear, and totally excited, blessed, humbled, and privileged that God is leading me forward in my ministry work for Him. Not only am I clear He’s moving me forward, but I know in my heart He will continue to grow both the ministry and myself to bring glory to His name. And I am sure therefore He will enable me to keep going forward, He will supply my needs, He will give me the strength, He will provide all I need most importantly His love, fellowship, mercy, grace, hope, joy, wisdom, and direction, to carry on. And He will provide financially however He desires through whomever He desires whenever He desires for His work for His forever glory!

When God calls us to keep going forward, and not to quit, He will provide what we need so long as we stay in His will, faithfully following Him forward. His most important provision as we continue to follow Him and choose not to quit? HIMSELF! HIS SPIRIT! And HIS WORD! For HIS GLORY! AMEN!

Should you quit? Ask God! Seek God! Look to Him! Look to the Bible! Seek godly counsel if and as and with whom He desires! Hear God! Obey God! And if He says carry on, don’t quit, then persevere. In the love, strength, mercy, grace, peace, hope, and joy of the Lord – for the glory of the Lord, HALLELUJAH, friend, AMEN!
