Please look with me at the first verse above. There are three things the Spirit of God has brought to light for me I am led to share with you:
2. When our light (Christ’s light in and through us) shines in the presence of others, they see OUR GOOD WORKS. Our good works do not earn our way to a forever relationship with God which cannot be earned, but THEY SHOULD RESULT from a forever relationship with God that we are given through His love and forgiveness when we repent and place our trust in Christ as Lord (Eph. 2:8-10). OUR GOOD WORKS are borne from THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST living and shining through us!
3. Those who see CHRIST’S LIGHT and the resulting GOOD WORKS manifest in and through us should glorify and praise us, right? ABSOLUTELY NOT! The whole point of Christ’s light and good works shining forth for others to see is that THEY GLORIFY GOD. We need to be enormously careful to NOT SEEK PEOPLE’S PRAISE and to NOT BOAST ABOUT OUR GOOD WORKS etc.
This scripture makes clear that God can and will use us to BRING GLORY TO HIMSELF by Christ’s light shining through us and good works being produced through us as a result of the Lord living in those of us who believe in and follow Him!
It’s all about the Lord, isn’t it? As it should be! To God be ALL THE GLORY, hallelujah, friend, AMEN!
The scriptures above about being a DOER of God’s Word are a wonderful reminder we should not just consider this little lesson about Christ’s light shining in and through us and good works resulting from His Spirit dwelling in us but that day by day we should live such that those with whom we come into contact will be drawn to the Lord through us such that they GLORIFY GOD’S HOLY MOST PRECIOUS ALMIGHTY FOREVER NAME!
