When I told a precious friend of mine who helps me with a certain aspect of my ministry work that I would soon likely need her help with a big project, her answer surprised, delighted, and inspired me.
“Ready and willing!” she wrote in an email.
Even in her written correspondence, though I could not hear her voice nor her tone, I could sense openness, willingness, cheerfulness, humility, eagerness, enthusiasm, readiness, dedication, commitment, devotedness, passion, and, most importantly, love. Love for the Lord. Love for a sister in the Lord.
Though the work she has taken on in the eyes of many is manual labor, grunt work, the kind of work that doesn’t exactly spark excitement in the average person, to her that was not the point. She was being given an opportunity to love and serve the Lord, and to love and help a sister in the Lord. And, to her, this was enough reason to declare these words.
Ready and willing!
Openness, willingness, cheerfulness, humility, eagerness, enthusiasm, readiness, dedication, commitment, devotedness, passion, and, most importantly, love.
Are these not qualities and characteristics ascribed to someone with a servant’s heart? A heart not to just love the Lord in words, but to serve the Lord in action – WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE. A godly attitude.
I am sad to confess so very often I have been so exhausted, felt so overwhelmed, been so discouraged, been too upset, etc. that I have found myself serving the Lord with willingness and a sense of commitment and devotedness but not always with a positive and cheerful attitude.
Please join me in working on serving the Lord with a servant’s heart. And with an attitude most pleasing and gratifying to the Lord most high!
p.s. My friend would be the very first to admit how very imperfect she is, and that she like all of us is very much a work in progress. But may her yielding to the Lord that day be an example to us all. Of yielding utterly and lovingly to Him – in love, service, and obedience!
Ready and willing? To love and serve the Lord, YES!
