“But we will bless the Lord
From this time forth and forevermore.
Praise the Lord!” Psalm 115:18
I wasn’t in the least bit surprised when a beloved friend contacted me to let me know she was on the way to the Emergency Room with her husband. I wasn’t surprised she was headed there considering the medical treatment she had been undergoing regarding a major diagnosis, but I also wasn’t surprised with how she described her car ride there. That’s because I know her well, I know her heart for the Lord, and I know her determination to do something I believe we all could use the reminder to do.
She was praising it up to the ER. She was singing to the Lord, praising the Lord, praying to the Lord, thanking the Lord, reading Bible verses aloud in the presence of her husband and the Lord, and she was sending me verses via her phone and receiving verses from me.
She was dealing with a significant medical problem that morning, but she didn’t see how her trial should stop her from praising the Lord for who He is, for His goodness, for His countless blessings, most importantly for the forever relationship she has with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ.
She knew God is worthy of all praise all the time no matter what, and her praising God wasn’t contingent on her circumstances. Her praise was, and is, contingent on Him.
I wish I could tell you I am as mature and faithful and humble in my relationship with Jesus as my sister in the Lord, but the truth is I have a lot of growing yet to do. Thank God He reminds me in His Word to love and praise Him unconditionally as my friend did that day – and that He sends me human reminders like my friend so I remember to do what we all should do – continually.
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
Not conditional on our circumstances. Conditional on Him.
Oh, praise the Lord!
