“Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”” Genesis 12:1-3
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” Hebrews 11:8-10
“This is crazy. Can I really be leaving in four days or a place I’ve never known?”
Honestly, I don’t know if I was simply thinking to myself. Or praying to God. Or perhaps both. Either way, the message is the same. I was sitting pretty much stunned for a few moments considering that I’m just days away from not only packing up once again me, the dogs, my few possessions, their few belongings, most importantly my Bible and laptop to write for the Lord, and heading out in my car with about 245,000 miles on it to my next ministry location, but also to the next two big locations after that. Ordained by God.
Yes, you read that right. Ordained by God. I seek Him constantly. Daily. Passionately. Relentlessly. With vigor. Desiring beyond measure to love and please Him, to honor and adore Him, to obey and serve Him, to worship Him with all that I am.
And when I seek, He answers. In this case, He speaks to my heart where He is leading me next out on the road full-time for Him. This time, for the first time, He has given me my next three locations. AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ANY OF THEM! Oh my! Oh gosh! Oh golly! No way! No way? Yes way! Yes, Lord, yes. For He is Lord.
No matter I have never been there before. No matter I don’t have any friends or family in any of those places that I’m aware of or recall anyway.
When God says go, I remember this. HE IS LORD. FOREVER LORD. And my job is to humbly and lovingly say YES, God, yes!
What did Jonah do when God sent him out to preach? He rebelled! After a long yucky path going his own way, he repented and went God’s way. What did Abraham do when the Lord told him to pack everything up and head out to a place he did not know? He went. Whom in the Bible does God honor? Those who love and obey Him. Whom does He honor today? Those who love and obey Him.
Earlier this morning, I was almost in tears of blessing and thanksgiving when I remembered as a girl I desperately didn’t want to spend even one night away from my family’s home. I would come up with any manner of excuses or go to a friend’s house to stay over and then call my family saying I wanted to come home. I refused to go away to camp for a long time and then finally surrendered with great trepidation. All these years later, as a Christ follower now, I know what to do when the Lord sends me to a place I’ve never known.
Place my trust in Him. And say yes.
Sometimes God leads us to places we’ve never known geographically. But sometimes it’s not geographic. Sometimes it’s a new job, a new relationship, a new marriage, a new baby, a new volunteer job, a new calling, a new hobby, a new sport, learning how to share the Gospel, serving at church, participating in ministry work, starting a ministry, going to a stranger to pray for that person, giving a gift to someone we don’t know because He tells us to, opening up our cupboards and closets and giving away a bunch of what’s inside them, giving a gigantic offering at church or sowing it into a missionary’s life somewhere far away, etc.
No matter the place we’ve never known, it’s not about our comfort nor about our desires nor about any fear we may feel. It’s not about feelings. It’s not about us. It’s about Jesus. Christ. Lord. And the fact we are to humble ourselves before God almighty and obey Him in all things. No matter the cost. And He will give us the strength and wisdom and provision we need to go forth in His will led by His Spirit.
LIVING FOR HIS GLORY!
Is God calling you to a place you’ve never been? If you’re clear it’s the Lord, then go!
p.s. Please pray for me, this ministry, the 5 special needs dogs who travel for the Lord with me, and for all the lives worldwide the Lord touches and reaches through my little heart and ministry ALL FOR HIS GLORY! AMEN!
