“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Pillows are supposed to be comfortable, and no physical possession on this earth is more important than a Bible, which is God’s Word, but pillows and Bibles can be a deadly combination. And a reminder of the grave danger of man-made traditions, of a lack of knowledge and understanding of God’s truth, and of the rejection of God’s truth for those who know it.
One day I asked a homeless woman if she believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was quick and emphatic in her response. “Yes!” A little ways into our conversation, she told me she was too busy taking care of important things to go to church. And she had a Bible but didn’t read it. She clearly wasn’t concerned with any of this. Why? She figured she was perfectly okay because she slept with her Bible under her pillow as a loved one had taught her to do. Apparently she figured placing her Bible under her pillow would keep her okay and safe and secure. She had bought into the lie of a man-made tradition, rejected any knowledge she may have had of God’s truth, and appeared to be heading straight down the pathway to eternal torment apart from God in hell and the lake of fire all the while sleeping comfortably and cozily with her Bible under her comfy pillow.
The ONLY way to an everlasting relationship with God, to know Him intimately on earth and forever in heaven, to be in His fellowship forever, to escape His wrath at us for our sins and to be promised eternal life instead, is to receive His forgiveness when we repent of our sins and place our trust in Christ as Lord, believing He died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, and to genuinely forevermore devote our lives to Christ. This involves a whole new WAY OF LIFE, a LIFESTYLE, of dying to self, of turning away from the world’s ways, of following Christ, of living for Him and of living led by the Spirit of God who indwells Christ’s followers according to the Bible.
Pillows may bring comfort, and placing our Bibles under them may make us feel safe, but ONLY when we give our lives wholly to Christ and open our Bibles and study them and live according to them because therein lies God’s will, wisdom, and ways for us to live by are we given the true security and safety of spending forever in the Lord’s gloriously magnificent presence. Only when we believe in Christ and follow Christ and live for Christ are we truly okay.
If we’re placing our trust in sleeping with our Bibles under our pillows, or in any other man-made tradition or in anything or anyone else for that matter other than the Lord Jesus Christ and a rock solid committed relationship with Him, to give us the security of God’s forgiveness and the promise of a forever relationship with Him, instead of forever in hell and the lake of fire separate from Him, we may feel “comfy” and secure today, but we are headed down the pathway to everlasting torment apart from God almighty.
