When It’s Not God’s Will

“There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

“If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, hat we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:7-11

“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:14-15

“Lara, stop,” the Spirit of God spoke to me early one morning. “This is not my will.”

All I had been doing was “innocently” looking up information and looking at pictures of something I really wanted. Really, really wanted. Something that was not wrong in the least in the way of what it actually was. But something the Lord wanted to make plain and clear was NOT His will for me. I had a decision to make.

I could keep driving down the road of temptation and lick my chops so to speak over what I wanted and what I saw now that I had started looking for more information. Or, I could STOP as the Lord had told me to do and get back on the right road.

I had taken a detour. I was driving speedily down the road of temptation as though I were lord of my own life. As though the Lord were not my Lord. As though I were in charge. As though I were once again living for self. Living to please me. Doing what I wanted to satisfy the lusts of my flesh. Chasing after the pleasures of this life. I knew what to do.

I STOPPED. I turned off the road I had been driving down. I turned back to the Lord. For one single reason. Jesus Christ is Lord forever, I belong to Him, I am a believer in Him and His follower, I am promised everlasting life through faith in Him as Lord and Savior, and as such I live for Jesus rather than for myself and this world.

I humbled myself before the Lord. And submitted myself in my heart once more to God almighty. So His Spirit could lead me forth. Down the road that is His. For Jesus is the way. The truth. And the life. (John 14:6) The way to God, the way to heaven, and the way to live.

When we are doing something that is not God’s will, or not yet doing it but heading in that direction because we are flirting with temptation and starting to take the bait the devil is dangling before us, we face a decision.

Will we continue further down the road of temptation and thereby displease and dishonor God, sinning against Him and facing the ugly consequences? Or, will we turn off that road and return to God and His will and ways?

Jesus Christ is Lord, friend. And we are to live not for self but for Jesus. If you are headed down the wrong road, it’s time to do what God told me to do that day. STOP. And return to Him. Repent of anything you need to repent from, and yield yourself utterly to the Lord. For God’s sake, for Christ’s sake, for His forever glory, yes, AMEN!
