“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” 2 Cor. 5:15
“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” Col. 1:9
I stopped making New Year’s resolutions years ago. Not because I believe there’s anything wrong with making them. Nor because I wasn’t always so very good at keeping them. But more than anything because I’ve changed the way I live in two ways more than any others.
1. I no longer live for me; I live for the Lord Jesus Christ and no longer to do my will and live my dreams but to do God’s will and live His dreams for me.
2. I am learning not to live for the future but to live for today whereby I learn day by day to trust the Lord to reveal to me His will and desires and to equip me with all I need to follow Him forward. Even when the Lord reveals to me His will for something in the future such as a ministry project, I don’t make yearly resolutions. I am committed to obey Him, but I learn to live day by day. HE will lead the way! He WILL lead the way! He IS the way!
Friend, please don’t live for yourself. Live for Jesus. Believe in Him. Follow Him. Resolve to live for Jesus day by day, led by the Spirit of God who lives inside His followers, according to the Word of God which is the Bible. Resolve to live to love, worship, serve, honor, seek, obey, and glorify God this day, tomorrow, and forever. May this resolution not be your New Year’s resolution. May it be your resolution for now and eternity.
Live for Christ. Now. Forever. And the Spirit of Christ will lead you day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment. Instead of resolving for the coming year to do what you feel is best according to your timetable for your satisfaction, seek the Lord, study His Word, assemble with His followers, hear the Lord, obey the Lord, and resolve to bring Him love, praise, adoration, joy, pleasure, honor, and glory for now and forever, AMEN!
