“Love…thinks no evil;” 1 Cor. 13:4-5
“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.” Col. 3:8-9
“”Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” 1 Thess. 5:22-24
Oh, how easy it is in this day and age to point the finger at the world all around us and cry out, “Evil! Evil! Look at all the evil!” But when we put down our finger and quit pointing, and we look to the Lord, and to His Word, and to ourselves, we need to ask ourselves this vitally important question.
What about us? Sin against God is evil, and the Lord makes plain and clear in His Word this.
* We are not to think evil thoughts
* We are not to speak evil things
* We are not to do evil
Loving Jesus isn’t just about believing in Him as Lord. It’s about living a lifestyle of loving, worshiping, serving, pleasing, praising, adoring, obeying, and literally living for God almighty according to His ways for His glory day by day. We are to continually purify ourselves as we purge from ourselves anything at all displeasing to the Lord. Sin is displeasing! Evil is displeasing! Evil is sin!
And the reality is if we’re honest with ourselves that we humans are prone to evil thoughts, words, and actions, i.e., thoughts, words, and actions that do not fall into line with the Lord’s Word and that grieve His blessed Holy Spirit.
Even as I write this, I am convicted of my need to ever yield myself to the correction of the Spirit of God as He renews my mind through the Word and changes my heart and life that I ever live to love and please Him. How easy it is when I am not careful to fall back into evil thoughts, words, and actions. In other words, thoughts, words, and actions that are ungodly, unholy, impure, displeasing to my precious beloved Jesus.
None of us no matter how much we believe in Jesus and love and follow Him lives perfectly. We are all works in progress who must ever keep ourselves in the loving hands of the Lord as He by His Spirit through His Word which we must continually study and learn to live by perfects His love and ways in and through us.
No more evil! We must ever aspire to this as we grow in the image of God and live to honor and worship Him forevermore, AMEN!
