My Glory, Your Growth

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Cor. 3:18

When I was growing up, my Mom used to say of a challenging experience, “this will build your character.” My Dad’s response was: “I have enough character.” In other words, enough of this challenging stuff! No more character building! My family didn’t believe in the Lord, but they sure had it right when it comes to challenges in our lives. Who wants to go through a trial, and what good could possibly come of it? One day, as the Lord continued to test me, His Spirit said this to me:

“You will find when you are through this that everything I brought you through was used for my glory and your growth,” He said.

Though I would have loved to have been told that the trial was over, it wasn’t. The Lord was simply giving me encouragement to persevere. And I was awed by His words and the message they contained.

My glory.

Your growth.

Through the trial, if I yielded myself utterly to God and His ways, God would use that season in my life to BRING HIM GLORY. This was first and foremost. But it was not all. He would also use that season to GROW ME IN HIS IMAGE.

How awesome. God didn’t see the trial the way I did. I saw it as a mountain so big I knew I couldn’t take another step without Him. He didn’t see it as a mountain at all. He saw the potential in the trial to BRING HIMSELF GLORY and TO GROW ME.

What if we looked at the mountains of our trials from a different perspective? From Jesus’ perspective? Instead of thinking, “Oh no! Oh my! No way! I’ll never make it! How can you do this God? I can’t! I won’t! Oh help! I want to quit! No can do!”, etc., we could see it like this.

What if in this season of trial in my life, the Lord could use me to BRING HIMSELF GLORY and use that season TO GROW ME IN HIS IMAGE?

God can do just that! Let’s yield ourselves to Him in our seasons of trial so He can do just that!

Glory to God! May we live to love and glorify Him! And may He day by day grow us by His Spirit through His Word to be ever more like Him!
