“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Rom. 12:1
Just before going to see a dear friend I had not seen in many years, I prayed, “Father, give me the words to speak, the ears to listen, and the heart to love.”
I wanted her to see His love, to hear the words He wanted me to speak to her, and for me to listen to her and hear what He wanted me to hear. I wanted out time together to be submitted to God. I wanted to be wholly surrendered to Him. That our meeting would bring Him glory. That God would use me to bless her, to help her, to encourage her, to love her, to talk to her about Him, to do whatever He desired.
What a long way the Lord has brought me. Friendships in my life – and anything for that matter – had always been about self and others and this world’s ways. They had been fleshly friendships. Now I understand my mouth, ears, and heart belong to Jesus. And God can use each of them, and all of me, when I am surrendered to Him, to love and glorify Him and to love and bless others in Jesus’ name. My mouth, ears, and heart – and very life – belong to Jesus, right down to this very moment and breath.
Imagine what our lives would look like if we continually fully surrendered our mouths, ears, and hearts – and very lives – to the Lord in our friendships and in all things. Imagine if we lived above all else in our friendships and in every area of our lives to love, worship, praise, adore, and glorify God forever and to help people to believe in and follow Jesus for eternity.
May it be so! May we surrender ALL, ALL the time, to the Lord, for ALWAYS! Yes, may it be so!
