“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:16
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”” John 13:34-35
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”” John 7:38
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5
“We love Him because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
There is no love greater in the universe than the Lord’s for us. We need more than merely knowing ABOUT His love. We need to BELIEVE HIS LOVE. We need to RECEIVE HIS LOVE. To KNOW HIS LOVE personally. To EXPERIENCE HIS LOVE. To LOVE HIM IN RETURN. And to LOVE OTHERS WITH HIS LOVE.
Christ’s born again forgiven followers are HIS BODY, and HIS LOVE needs to be able to FLOW FREELY and to FLOW FULLY through HIS BODY to reach the world around us. This is to include our FELLOW FOLLOWERS and to include people who are UNBELIEVERS who need to see Christ through us and be drawn to Him and repent and turn to Him as Lord.
But just like the human heart and the veins and arteries can get all clogged up such that life-sustaining blood cannot adequately pour through and get to where it needs to go to do what it needs to do, the Lord’s love can get stopped from going where it needs to go to do what it needs to do when we who follow Him get in the way of the flow of His love with our self-centered sins we need to continually repent from.
Worry, anger, bitterness, hurt, rage, vengeance, pride, fear, revenge, selfishness, greed, lust, sexual immorality, unkindness, etc. The sins in our hearts, in our words, and most definitely in our actions can clog up our hearts and lives such that we restrict or even at times altogether stop Christ’s love from pouring through us to reach the world around us.
We are to be temples of God’s Spirit. We are to be vessels of Christ’s love. We are to be servants of Jesus ever being filled with more of Him and ever pouring out His love and grace and mercy and kindness and patience and peace and joy and generosity and goodness etc. on those with whom we come in contact.
Nothing absolutely nothing should stop Jesus’ love from pouring into us and from pouring through us. The living waters of God, His Spirit, should not be blocked at all – not ever – from gushing through us.
So let’s be honest with ourselves, friend. What sins may we be clinging to that we need to let go? Is anything clogging us up in such a way that Christ’s love does not have free reign to continually and mightily rush through us?
I struggle with worry and impatience, and I can fall quickly into prideful thoughts regarding others and be quick tempered especially where my sweet doggies are concerned. I can allow hurt to fester forever it seems before I realize I need to rid myself of it. I need to continually repent from all of it and from anything else the Spirit of God shows me has taken up residence in this little heart and life that belong to Him. Repentance and renewed commitment to be pure for Jesus opens the floodgates of Christ’s love so it pours like a powerful waterfall once again through me.
How about you, friend? Anything clogging up the flow of Jesus’ love in and through you? May your repentance be ongoing, may you continually purify yourself for Jesus, and may His love come rushing and gushing blessedly and uninhibited through you. To God belongs the glory, AMEN!
