“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Mt. 7:21-23
“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:9
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
Locked out. Me on one side of the door. The dog I had just driven 25 minutes to let out of the barn on the other. She wanted nothing more than to get out into the beautiful fresh air and abundant sunshine and hurry through the lush grassy area, over the patch of rocks, up the grassy incline, onto the trail, to enjoy her morning walk with trees, wildlife, trails, and wide open fields galore. She loved the peace and quiet of her cozy den area with delicious blankets in the barn, but it was time for her favorite thing. Walking! Even her breakfast, yummy dog food topped off with a mini blueberry or lemon muffin, couldn’t compare with her walks. But there was a problem. I was locked out! She was locked in! Ugh! I tried just about everything to get in. I had accidentally thrown away the key the night before into a public trashcan when I’d taken all my old keys off my keyring. Thank God, after another 25 minute drive, I dug through the trash and found the key. Turned back around, let her out, and off we walked!
Ever been locked out? Frustrating. Agitating. Time consuming. But there’s always a way in, isn’t there? Find the key, climb through a window, call your husband, landlady, locksmith, neighbor, whatever. There’s always a backup, right? You know eventually you’ll get in to where you’re trying to go. You know it’s going to be okay.
Countless people see heaven the same way. Like they’re bound to get in, one way or another. But there is only ONE way to heaven. Jesus Christ. Repenting and believing in Him as Lord. Following Him as Lord. Living for Him as Lord. Committing oneself to Him as Lord. He is the ONLY door to God in heaven. The first verse above makes clear some people will be FOREVER locked out of heaven and spend eternity in hell and the lake of fire apart from God because though they call Jesus Lord, they don’t live their lives accordingly. They profess Jesus as Lord with their mouths but their hearts and lives prove otherwise. There is NO backup entrance into heaven. Those who will be locked out will be locked out forever. Where will you spend forever? Now is the time to repent and turn to Christ!
