“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
” “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”” Mt. 7:24-27
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33
I am constantly meeting people whose lives are falling apart. I am also constantly meeting people whose lives have already fallen apart. Call it the nature of the work I do. Traveling around the country doing streets ministry and writing and publishing Gospel tracts, devotionals, and books, totally sold out to the Lord and serving Him, and to people and helping them to find and forever faithfully follow Him, of course I constantly run into people with big life-falling apart kind of issues.
But it’s not just the nature of my work. It’s also my own story. My life was once so fallen apart and broken there was literally no hope for me. But it’s not just the nature of my work and personal story. It’s the nature of life on this earth. That, as Jesus Christ promised us, we will face trials and tribulations. Our biggest problem isn’t that we face trials and tribulations, friend. It’s how we face them, how we respond to them, and whether or not and how we overcome them.
The biggest problem I had in my decades of brokenness, and the biggest problem I see when I meet others whose lives are falling apart or have already fallen apart, is that our human tendency is either to quit, to try to fix our own lives haphazardly in our human weakness, and/or that we go running to the offerings and ways of the world to try to put the pieces of our lives back together.
What do we need to do instead? Repent of our sins, believe in Christ as Lord who died to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, genuinely committing our lives to God and His ways, be forgiven and given everlasting life, receive the gift of God’s Holy Spirit who dwells inside His followers, and live our lives led by the Spirit of God according to the Word of God, the Bible, as God conforms us to Himself and teaches us to live in a way pleasing and honoring and glorifying to Him.
My life needed a demolition. Not renovations. A brand new start. From the ground up. From the foundation. For our lives are to be founded on the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible. And when we humbly devotedly place our lives in God’s hands and learn to live according to His ways, He transforms us into the men and women of God He created us to be. From the foundation up. Starting with faith in Christ as Lord.
Is your life falling apart? Has it already fallen apart? Give your life to Jesus. Totally. Utterly. Wholly. Forever. And watch what God will do when your foundation is Jesus and your heart and life are fully and truly His.
