“Also Moses said, “This shall be seen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to the full; for the Lord hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”” Exodus 16:18
“But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”” Acts 5:3-4
Ever lied or complained? Or both? Who hasn’t? Haven’t we all at one time or another? I can’t speak for you, but I can speak for myself. I have. Lying is sin, you know. So is complaining. We shouldn’t lie to God. We shouldn’t complain to God. But this is not all. Here’s what I didn’t realize. Look at the scriptures above. What do you see?
When we lie to people, WE SIN AGAINST GOD! When we complain to people, WE SIN AGAINST GOD! I don’t know about you, but this really caught my attention when I saw it in God’s Word. Why?
Do we not sometimes justify our wrong behavior by claiming that what we’ve done is simply between us and people – and perhaps people who feel deserve what we did? The scriptures make clear our wrongdoing is SIN AGAINST GOD!
When it comes to lying and complaining, it’s altogether clear, isn’t it? Sin is sin, and lying is sin. Complaining is sin. And whether we lie or complain directly to God or to people, it’s all the same when it comes down to it. It’s sin. And it needs to be done away with. We need to repent from it. Seek God’s forgiveness, turn away from the sin, stop repeating it, and move on.
Let’s repent and move on, shall we?
