“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
“What do you want me to do?” I asked the Lord one day.
“You need to eat. You need to rest. You need to study [the Bible],” the Spirit of God spoke to me.
“These are the only things I want you to do right now,” He finished.
Was I really hearing that specifically from God? Yes. I have learned to discern His voice. I have learned to seek His voice. I have learned to hear His voice. I have learned to obey His voice.
God speaks to His followers first and foremost through His Word, the Bible. He also speaks to the hearts of His followers by His Spirit always and only in line with His Word, so we must check everything we believe we hear from Him against His Word to make sure it does in fact line up. If it doesn’t line up with God’s Word, it’s not from God.
God’s Spirit lives inside His followers, and we need to be filled with His Spirit – and with His Word by ever studying it.
How can we obey God’s will without hearing it? We can’t. How can we hear God’s Word without seeking Him? We can’t. How can we seek God without praying and studying God’s Word? We can’t.
Jesus’ followers need to love and trust the Lord, to seek the Lord, to hear the Lord, and to obey the Lord. God will speak to our hearts as specifically as He did to me that day – right down to the need for food, rest, and study, and to anything else He desires to speak to His children.
Know God’s will for you? Seek Him. Hear Him. Obey Him. It all begins with a personal relationship with Him that comes when we turn away from our sins, place our faith in Jesus as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, truly devoting our lives to God and His ways forevermore, whereby we are forgiven and promised an everlasting relationship with Jesus as LORD.
Know God’s will? Seek Him, friend. Seek Him! And in loving humble honor of Him, obey the Lord!
