“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.” 1 Peter 2:15-16
“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Gal. 5:13
There is no greater freedom in the universe than receiving forgiveness and the promise of everlasting life when we repent and believe in Christ as Lord who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead whereby we commit our hearts and lives to God and His ways forevermore.
We are born again spiritually with a clean slate, set free from our sins and set free from God’s wrath and the punishment we deserve of death, hell, and the lake of fire forever apart from God. We are set free from our past, set free from sin’s dominion over us, and set free from everlasting punishment. Jesus Christ died on the cross so all who believe in Him as Lord, living for Him accordingly, are FREE. But if you believe this FREEDOM is for us alone, you are missing a vitally important message when it comes to FREEDOM.
God’s two greatest commands are to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves, and the FREEDOM we find through the Lord Jesus Christ is the perfect fit for these two greatest commands. How so?
In the verses above, liberty – or FREEDOM – is for what purpose? TO SERVE CHRIST! And? TO SERVE OTHERS! God doesn’t just set us free through Jesus so we can be promised eternal bliss in heaven with Him when our lives on earth are over.
He FREES US in Christ TO LOVE AND SERVE HIM AND OTHERS. And, in doing this, He uses us TO GLORIFY HIM and to HELP OTHERS BECOME FREE AND LIVE FREE IN CHRIST!
How? By LOVING THEM, by SHARING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE OF CHRIST with them, and by HELPING PEOPLE FOLLOW JESUS DAY BY DAY once they BELIEVE IN HIM AS LORD.
If you are FREE IN CHRIST, what are you doing with your FREEDOM, friend? Are you using it to LOVE AND SERVE GOD AND OTHERS?
If you are NOT YET FREE IN CHRIST, Jesus is the ONLY WAY to THE FREEDOM of GOD’s FORGIVENESS and the PROMISE OF EVERLASTING LIFE & FELLOWSHIP WITH THE LORD!
