“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:1
“My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.” Song of Solomon 2:10
Feeling trapped? I am. Totally trapped. Feeling like you can’t get out of the circumstances you’re in? The feelings you’re in? The situation you’re in? The job you’re in? Relationship? Health scenario? Whatever it may be, feeling like no matter how much you want, no matter how much you try, you just can’t escape? You can’t get out of there?
I feel that way right this very moment as I write this. It’s not the first time I’ve felt this way, and more than likely not the last. But I am reminded of something I now know I didn’t used to know – something I want to share with you in case you’re not aware of this or in case you need the reminder like I do right now.
There are times in our lives we truly face circumstances from which we can’t escape. There are also times we are in circumstances that we can escape if we rebel against God, but that we need to accept and stay in if we want to do the will of God because He has a purpose for us there and a season for us to be there no matter how short or long lasting that season.
So what are we supposed to do? What can we do? How can we survive those seasons in our lives – with sanity and solace, with serenity and hope? And even with a sense of purpose, reward, and rejoicing?
* Accept where we are if we know it’s God’s will
* Consciously place our trust in Him moment by moment
* Place our hope, expectation, and needs in His hands
* Be filled with His Spirit if we’re His followers and stay continually in His Word both reading it and living by it
* Choose to praise Him no matter our circumstances
* Stay connected with Christ’s followers
* Look at the feeling of being trapped from another vantage point
Another vantage point? Yes. No matter our circumstances, and no matter how impossible it may be to get away from them, even for a break, a vacation, a respite, a reprieve, a getaway, an all out escape, etc., WE CAN ESCAPE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. WE CAN ESCAPE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. WE CAN ESCAPE THROUGH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
We can shift our focus from ourselves and our feelings and our circumstances and BEHOLD GOD and BEHOLD HIS WORD and BREATHE and REST IN HIM and REJOICE THAT JESUS IS LORD FOREVER and HOPE IN THE LORD’S PROMISES and HOPE IN HIM and WORSHIP HIM and TAKE COMFORT FROM HIM.
We can RECEIVE HIS GRACE AND MERCY and POUR OUT OUR HURTING AND OVERWHELMED HEARTS TO GOD and SING TO HIM and LISTEN FOR HIS VOICE SPEAKING PERSONALLY TO OUR HEARTS and HEAR AND OBEY HIS VOICE and EXPERIENCE HIS PRESENCE and FEEL HIS LOVE and LOOK TO HIM and KNOW WE ARE LOVED AND CARED FOR AND PROVIDED FOR BY HIM.
We can BE THANKFUL TO HIM and COMMUNE WITH HIM and SIT SILENTLY AT HIS FEET FOR A FEW MOMENTS OR HOURS and LOOK AT THE WORLD AROUND US AND SEE HIS GOODNESS IN SMALL WAYS AND BIG WAYS and TAKE STOCK OF HIS GOODNESS TO US PERSONALLY.
We can TAKE JOY THAT WE WHO BELIEVE IN JESUS AS LORD WILL ONE DAY BE IN A PLACE WITH HIM FOREVER WITH NOT A SINGLE OUNCE EVER AGAIN OF HURT AND HARDSHIP and TAKE REFUGE IN THE MESSIAH JESUS and COME INTO HIS SECRET PLACE WHICH IS OUR HIDING PLACE WHICH IS HIS SHELTER WHICH IS UNDER GOD ALMIGHTY’S GLORIOUS WINGS.
We can LOVE HIM WHO LOVES US and FELLOWSHIP WITH CHRIST knowing this is not for a moment but will be for those of us who follow Him for everlasting! HE IS THE GREATEST REWARD OF THOSE WHO FOLLOW HIM BOTH NOW AND FOREVER. AND HE HAS REWARDS FOR HIS FOLLOWERS AS SHOWN IN HIS WORD ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS THAT RESULT FROM OUR FAITH IN HIM.
Feeling trapped? ESCAPE IN CHRIST. ESCAPE WITH HIM. COME AWAY WITH HIM INTO THE SPIRITUAL REFUGE WHICH IS JESUS THE CHRIST WHO IS LORD FOREVERMORE! SPEND TIME IN HIS PRESENCE. SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD! COME NOW BEFORE HIM WITH HUNGER AND THIRST AND A DESPERATE LONGING FOR HIS NEARNESS AND LOVE AND COMFORT AND REST!
Need the reminder? I do!
