Don’t Quit!

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The devil can’t take Christ’s followers out of Christ’s Kingdom, he can’t steal our salvation from us, he can’t take away our relationship with God from us, he can’t undo God’s forgiveness of us, he can’t stop God from loving us, but he sure can try to wreak havoc on our lives by messing up our relationship with God, by messing up our testimony in front of others, and by messing up our ability to humbly, lovingly, and faithfully serve the Lord.

The devil doesn’t have the power to do any of this himself, but in his three-fold mission to steal, kill, and destroy, he can use attacks and temptations and distractions to try to get us to stumble and fall, to go in the wrong direction, to distance ourselves from God, to doubt God, to hurt God and others, and a host of other possibilities he schemes up to make us less effective at best and ineffective at worst. One thing the devil loves to do, in my experience anyway, is to try to get Christ’s followers so distracted, and so downhearted, and so discouraged, and so disgruntled, and so depressed, and so detached, and so discombobulated, and so down, etc., that when we are clear about what God has called us to do to serve Him, WE QUIT.

I can’t tell you how many times in my years of ministry work for the Lord I have desperately wanted to QUIT. Not because God was telling me to stop, but because I was falling for the schemes of the devil who was trying to shut me down so I would no longer serve God in the way He has called me to serve Him.

Rest assured, the ONLY reason I never quit serving the Lord in the way He has called me to serve Him is because I chose to do six things:

  1. LOVE THE LORD
  2. OBEY THE LORD
  3. CRY OUT TO THE LORD
  4. POUR OUT MY HEART TO THE LORD
  5. SEEK HIS LORDSHIP, HIS WILL, HIS STRENGTH, HIS LOVE, HIS COMFORT, HIS FORGIVENESS, HIS MERCY, HIS GRACE, HIS PEACE, HIS HOPE, HIS PROMISES, HIS WORD, HIS FELLOWSHIP, HIS KINDNESS, HIS WISDOM, HIS DISCERNMENT, HIS DIRECTION, HIS SUPPORT, HIS COUNSEL, HIS PROTECTION, HIS PROVISION, HIS VOICE, HIS REST, HIS TIME WITH ME, and HIS FREEDOM, HEALING, REDEMPTION, AND JOY AND NEARNESS AND EVER FILLING OF HIS SPIRIT.
  6. SEEK THE LOVE, SUPPORT, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND PRAYER OF FELLOW FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST PARTICULARLY SISTERS IN THE LORD STRONGLY GROUNDED IN THE WORD.

I did not quit, and have not quit, no matter how hard the devil has tried to get me to quit because God almighty through Christ has tenderly, mercifully, lovingly, and faithfully given me everything I have needed to endure, to stick with it, to persevere, to carry on, to press forward, to move ahead, FOR GOD’S GLORY.

Maybe the devil has come hard at you in the past. Maybe he’s doing that right now. Maybe he will in the future. I hope you will be encouraged to know THE VICTORY in carrying on in loving, seeking, and following and serving God almighty in Christ comes in DEPENDING ON HIM to enable us to do what He has called us to do.

Please don’t quit. Please cry out to the Lord!
