You Don’t Need to Know

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 4:5-6

One day the Lord told me to do something. I did it. A few days later, I thought about it. It didn’t really make much sense to me. Now the way I see things being the human that I am, I figure I should know the reason behind whatever I do. Particularly if it’s not my idea to do something. Most especially when it’s the Lord’s idea. His will, to be precise. But God spoke to my heart that day I was reflecting on my obedience a few days prior.

“There is a reason,” the Spirit of God spoke to my heart. “You don’t need to know.”

There it was. And here it is. The message. Obedience to the Lord isn’t about what we want, what we feel, what makes us comfortable, our desires, our ways and wants, and it’s not about our understanding whether or not we have any. It’s about the Lord Jesus Christ, about our need to obey Jesus no matter what – including with or without understanding regarding what the Lord tells us to do.

I may never understand why God told me to do what He did. It doesn’t matter. What matters is this. That I heard God. That I submitted to God. That I obeyed Him. And that Christ’s followers are to follow Christ. In love. In humility. In obedience.

Jesus Christ is Lord forever. When God tells you to do something, lovingly humbly obey Him. Whether or not you understand, no matter what you think or how you feel, the Lord is God. He is almighty. He is sovereign. And when He tells us to do something, we need to say yes and carry on. Following Him. Now. And forever. AMEN!
