Don’t BE a Discouragement

“Where can we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our hearts, saying, “The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’ “Then I said to you, ‘Do not be terrified, or afraid of them. The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ Yet, for all that, you did not believe the Lord your God, who went in the way before you to search out a place for you to pitch your tents, to show you the way you should go, in the fire by night and in the cloud by day.” Deut. 1:28-33……………..

“Therefore comfort [encourage in some translations]each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” 1 Thess. 5:11……………..

I am afraid we live in such a self-centered world that when we read the scriptures above we may be prone to think only about how awful it is when people discourage us such that it becomes really difficult to move ahead as the Lord leads us forth in our lives. I read these verses along with other verses on the same topic in the Bible for YEARS before I saw something I had never seen. This message.

Christ’s followers are called to love and ENCOURAGE one another – not to DISCOURAGE each other! Specifically, we are supposed to ENCOURAGE one another to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, to walk with God, to grow in His image, to become more like Him, to be conformed to Jesus, to study and live by the Bible, to be led by God’s Spirit, NO MATTER WHAT the Lord tells us to do, no matter where He leads us, no matter what He tells us to let go, no matter what He desires we leave behind, no matter how foolish, crazy, hard, wild, different, etc., what He tells us to do may seem in the eyes of others.

Please don’t DISCOURAGE others when they are following Jesus, but purge yourself of any judgment, criticism, condemnation, worry, bitterness, jealousy, pride, control, manipulation, anything sinful at all, repenting of every ounce of it, and ENCOURAGE others to seek the Lord, to hear the Lord, and to faithfully follow the Lord as there is NOTHING more important when it comes to loving and helping and supporting and guiding and counseling others than POINTING THEM TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, to GOD ALMIGHTY, to THE BIBLE, and encouraging them to forsake all to live utterly and wholly and genuinely and purely and committedly for the Lord Jesus Christ forever and evermore! Amen!
