Disintegrating Lady

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.” 2 Thess. 1:5-10

The lady who patiently waited for me to finish speaking to some other people so she could talk to me about my wheelchair dogs I had in the park one early evening was clearly elderly. There was no question she had already experienced many decades of life. Not only was she physically beautiful. but she looked extraordinarily healthy for her age. Yet and still, she might have been in her 80’s or 90’s. She was assuredly in her twilight years. As we progressed in our conversation about my wheelchair dogs and ultimately spoke of the Lord, she was staunchly and emphatically clear about two things.

First, she was an atheist and no way was anyone going to change her mind thank you very much. Second, she was utterly convinced she knew her future. She was headed into the ground to disintegrate. You read that right. To DISINTEGRATE.

When I spoke to her about the Lord and eternity, and as we continued forth in conversation, I told her that once she ended up in hell because she had refused to commit her life to the Lord Jesus Christ, there was no turning back. She definitively told me there is no hell, and disintegration was the final outcome for her. End of conversation. But was it?

By God’s grace alone, as best I recall she had taken my Gospel tract which includes my personal story including that I was once an atheist like herself. And we smiled and exchanged a hug and left in a warm, friendly way. I believe the Lord had pried open her heart just wide enough to receive the seed of the truth. The truth that the only way to everlasting life is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that every one of us will end up in heaven or hell and the lake of fire.

The Lord is the only one ultimately who can lead her to Himself, and it will be up to her to decide whether to repent from her sins and believe Jesus died on the cross for her and was raised from the dead – or stay in her sins and spend forever in eternal torment apart from God.

I have an elderly loved one who believes the same as the lady I met that day. That she will end up buried in the ground as the last stop on her journey. I have shared with her the truth that we must give our lives over to Christ as Lord, to live for Him and Him alone, but she so far anyway won’t humble herself and surrender herself to Jesus who is King, Lord, and Savior forever. She would rather enjoy the pleasures of this life to the maximum and live for self and hang onto the false and deadly notion that her last stop is disintegration in the ground.

Friend, there are people all over this world right now living for self with the utter conviction they will disintegrate in the end and be no more. If you are one of them, you are believing a lie that will land you in everlasting torment apart from Jesus. If you believe the truth that Jesus is God and the only way to everlasting life, and have repented and are genuinely living for God according to His ways, then you have a responsibility like all Christ’s followers do.

To tell others the truth. Jesus is the ONLY way to everlasting life. We will end up in heaven with Him or the lake of fire forever with the devil. Our bodies may disintegrate, but we have souls that will live on forever. Where? Heaven with Jesus. Or hell and the lake of fire burning forever with the devil? What will be your last stop? It won’t be the ground.

Let’s get busy telling the truth to a lost and dying world. Before it’s too late.
