The Devil’s Spam Folder

“casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Cor. 10:5-6

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Phil. 4:8

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” Eph. 6:10-17

If you have a computer and use email, you’re probably familiar with the spam folder. It’s the folder earmarked for all the JUNK E-MAIL that is from unwelcome sources and filled with yucky stuff you want to keep as far away from your life as possible.

Gross stuff, icky stuff, garbage, bothersome stuff, annoying stuff, dangerous stuff, illegal stuff, immoral stuff, tempting stuff, distracting stuff, stuff your life is totally much better without. Thankfully, lots of that stuff never reaches you at all because your email is set up with special filters that automatically keep it from getting to you.

Other times, the unwelcome stuff gets to you and you have to add the source of the junk to the filters / spam folder so it doesn’t come to you again and goes to the spam folder instead. Bottom line, your life is cleaner, purer, easier, more manageable, and more peaceable when your spam filter and folder protect you from unwanted and unwelcome junk. Did you ever consider all this in relation to our minds?

The devil is continually trying to attack, tempt, distract, and destroy our minds (not to mention lives) with a whole bunch of junk. When we become Christ’s followers and are filled with His Spirit and begin day by day to study the Bible and learn to live by it, the Spirit of God and the Word of God act as filters for us.

Anything that is not pleasing and glorifying and honoring to God and does not line up with the Word of God, and anything that is not what and where the Spirit of God wants us focused in our lives, all of this needs to go to the spam folder so to speak. It needs to be filtered out and away from us so our minds and hearts and lives are safe from it.

If something comes at our minds or into our minds, and into our hearts, and is not God’s will for us to be thinking about and/or doing, we need to send it to the spam folder. Get rid of it. Put it out of harm’s way. Away from us. In obedience to Christ.

The first scripture above is a wonderful directive, tool, and method for us to use when it comes to our minds. The Lord shows us in it how we need to reject thoughts He doesn’t want us to have.

The second scriptures above show us what God DOES want us to think about.

The third scriptures above show us how vitally important it is we stand protected against the devil – our protection being in God, in the Spirit of Christ, and in God’s Word!

Have you ever noticed those who send spam email will go to just about any lengths to get it to make its through the spam filters so it gets into our email inboxes anyway and doesn’t land in the spam folder where it’s out of harm’s way?

The devil will go to any lengths, won’t he, to try to get us to think about stuff we shouldn’t think about and ultimately to do what we shouldn’t do and to feel how we shouldn’t feel (like depressed, discouraged, negative, disbelieving in God, etc.).

We need to be VIGILANT in yielding ourselves to the Spirit of God and the Word of God and in sending to the spam folder and the trash what doesn’t belong in our minds, hearts, and lives.

Let’s stand strong in the strength of the Spirit of Christ and the Word of Christ against the sickening despicable dangerous and distracting wiles of the dirty filthy stinking devil as day by day we train our minds and hearts to focus on the Lord God almighty and His glorious Word.
