Closed Doors

““The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6

Just because a door closes, doesn’t necessarily mean the Lord shut the door. People talk about doors opening and closing in reference to opportunities and possibilities, and some pray the Lord will show them His will by opening the doors to what He desires and shutting the doors to what He does not. But friend, we need to be careful with this.

When the door to an opportunity or possibility seems closed, it may well be the Lord does not want us to walk through that door. But it’s also possible His will is for us to walk through that door but that our faith and endurance will be tested as we face obstacles and hurdles, trials and tribulations, challenges and tough circumstances concerning that door and what’s behind it and ultimately entering through it.

God promised the Israelites the awesome wonderful blessed Promised Land, but those who eventually entered into it faced indescribable seemingly insurmountable obstacles on their journey there that they could only overcome with the direction of and in the strength and power of God almighty.

When doors seem closed, God may in fact have closed them. He may want to lead us elsewhere. Or, God may be telling us the time is not now. We need to wait and be patient and go through a preparation process. Or, the Lord might want us to keep walking in the direction of that door and what’s behind it and seek, hear, and obey Him as He helps us to overcome the hurdles in our way.

Look at the verses above. We are to fear God. To love, honor, and revere Him. We are to seek wisdom from Him and to walk in His ways. To believe in Christ as Lord, to be filled with His Spirit, to be led by His Spirit, to live for His glory. He will lead us where He wants us. Our job is to follow. He will enable us to go where He sends us and to do what He wants us to do. Our job is to follow. Follow the Lord, friend. Wherever He leads you. Live for His glory.
