I can’t do anything right.
One day that’s essentially what a beloved friend shared with me. That’s how she seemed to be feeling. Little did she know I have felt that way countless times throughout my life.
Sometimes I have gotten so caught up in that feeling I can’t seem to get out of it! Granted there have been times I have so struggled with sin that there was in fact not too very much I was doing right. But so very many times I have had that feeling, that’s all that it was. A feeling. And a wrong one in fact!
My dear friend is one of the most beautiful friends I have ever had, and one of the most precious sisters in the Lord I have ever known. I doubt with all my heart that there was little to nothing she was doing right at that time. I believe she was like perhaps so many of us struggling with an altogether different problem.
Listening to the voice of the devil. Believing his lies. The adversary of God’s children (1 Peter 5:8). The master of deception (Rev. 12:9). The father of lies (John 8:44). The one who goes about our lives trying to figure out if there’s anyone he can gobble up (1 Peter 5:8). The one whose main mission is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).
Unfortunately, when we listen to and believe Satan’s lies and believe we can’t do anything right, we’re in quicksand. We’re in the muck. And we can find ourselves stuck. And spiraling downward. And unable to do what we’re here on this earth to do. To love the Lord with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves. To believe in and follow Jesus Christ as Lord, to share the Gospel message with others, to help others grow in a forever relationship with God almighty through Christ, and to use the gifts God has given us to bring glory to His name.
It can be as though we have so allowed the devil to convince us we can’t do anything right that we become paralyzed and unable to go forward loving and serving God to the heights and depths to which we are called to do so!
Does God tell His followers we can’t do anything right? Does He condemn His followers, or instead does He teach us to walk in His ways, to follow Him, and does He lovingly and mercifully forgive us when we sin and repent and conform us day by day to Himself? The latter, my friend!
When we find ourselves stuck and spiraling downward in thinking like, “I can’t do anything right,” we have to get rid of the lies we’re believing and turn to Jesus, call out to Jesus, cry out to Jesus, believe in what God says about us, repent for anything we may in fact be doing wrong, seek God, study His Word, hear Him, and faithfully follow Him forward in humble loving adoration and obedience for the glory of the Lord, AMEN!
Please don’t listen to and believe the devil’s lies about you! Turn to the Lord, oh turn to the Lord! Believe in Christ, believe Him, and love and adore and serve God forever in Christ, AMEN!
