Are You Faithful?

“To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Col. 1:2

“as you also learned from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf,” Col. 1:7

“Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me.” Col. 4:7

“a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will make known to you all things which are happening here.” Col. 4:9

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Gal. 5:22-23

I’m the kind of person who tends to rush forward past the little details of life and whatever I’m involved in or looking at or reading or hearing so I can get to the meat of the matter and the significance and purpose of something so much so that I unfortunately have a tendency sometimes to miss the significance of what I have just rushed by.

But the Spirit of God in His loving graciousness and patience with me brings to light and life for me what I foolishly deemed as insignificant or less significant anyway as He teaches me that EVERY SINGLE WORD in God’s Word is significant and has purpose. Like a single word in the verses above I rushed past for YEARS.

Faithful. Insignificant? NO! Significant? YES! A message in this word? YES! In scripture after scripture in the book of Colossians as quoted above, the apostle Paul refers to Christ’s followers who are FAITHFUL. FAITHFUL followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. FAITHFUL brethren, servants, ministers.

He could have just referred to them as brethren, servants, and ministers. But he called them FAITHFUL. Why? Because TO BE FAITHFUL is so very important! Faithful in what way?

The word FAITHFUL should not be overlooked as I had done, nor should its significance once the word is acknowledged be disregarded. What’s the message in this for us, and how might the word FAITHFUL be considered in meaning and significance?

  • To be filled with FAITH in Jesus Christ as Lord
  • To be LOYAL and DEVOTED and COMMITTED and DILIGENT in looking to Jesus Christ as Lord, God, Father, Savior, healer, redeemer, deliverer, etc. and in FOLLOWING Him as such whereby day by day we live for Christ according to God’s ways as we learn in THE BIBLE
  • To be STEADFAST in BELIEVING in and LOVING and WORSHIPING and SPENDING TIME WITH and SEEKING and HEARING and OBEYING and PRAISING and ADORING and SERVING God almighty.

Our desire and commitment should be to be filled with FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ and to be fully FAITHFULLY devoted day by day to love and serve the Lord with all our hearts.

Those who are unfaithful in a relationship demonstrate their unfaithfulness by turning away in heart and actions from the one to whom they are committed while as Christ’s followers our hearts and actions should be turned to the Lord and should fully demonstrate breath by blessed breath that He is our first and forever love and everlasting glorious almighty Lord!

Are you faithful – to the Lord? May you be so – forever and ever so!
