A Wild Prayer

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Phil. 1:6

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Cor. 3:18

“Change me,” I prayed. “Change me into the woman you want me to be,” I essentially prayed.

Wow. A wild prayer. For me anyway. Not give me everything I want, God. Not make my life easy and perfect, Father. Not change everybody else so I’ll be happy, Lord. Not change me, God, so I’ll be pretty and popular. Not leave me like I am but change my circumstances so I can kick up my feet and relax and simply enjoy life. Not change me, Lord, so I’ll be the woman I want to be. So everyone will love me and I’ll be accepted and feel secure 24-7.

But this.

Change me. Change me into the woman you want me to be.

Why? So I’ll bring you glory, Father. So I’ll please you, my Lord. My precious beloved Jesus. My God. My King and Savior. My forever master and friend. Lord of Lords. King of Kings. My Christ! Change me into the woman you want me to be! FOR YOUR GLORY. So I bring pleasure and praise to YOUR NAME. That’s the prayer that comes to me now as I write this.

Why? The bottom line why? BECAUSE I LOVE THE LORD MORE THAN ANYTHING AND ANYONE AND LIVE AND BREATHE TO LOVE AND GLORIFY HIM AS I BELIEVE WE WERE ALL CREATED TO DO.

How did I get to be like this? Me, the most self-centered, sin-ridden woman I believe there has ever been! Me, who can still be incredibly self-centered and sin-ridden if I’m not vigilant in focusing on God and His Word and on repenting when the Spirit of God shows me sin in my heart and life.

God changed me. God is changing me. God will change me. By His Spirit. Through His Word. Because that’s His promise to those who follow Jesus Christ as Lord. That He will finish the work He started in us when we placed our faith in Him as Lord.

Being changed by God is HARD and involves DYING TO SELF and LIVING FOR CHRIST. It involves TURNING AWAY from the world’s ways and TURNING TO GOD AND HIS WAYS. It involves saying NO to the lusts of the flesh and saying YES to Jesus! But oh how rewarding it is to draw ever closer to Jesus and Jesus to us!

Who changes us? God does! What must we do? Repent. Believe in Christ as Lord who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead. Live according to God’s ways in the Bible. Yield ourselves step by step to the Spirit of God as we study God’s Word, as He renews our minds through His Word, and as He conforms us to Himself.

My wild prayer. Oh Lord, change me! For your glory! Make me into the woman of God you want me to be. Let me glorify your name, Father! For always! AMEN!

Will you say this prayer with me? Will you ask God to change you for His glory? Will you place your faith in Jesus as Lord, follow Him as Lord, and yield yourself to Him step by step that God by His Spirit through His Word may ever change you as He conforms you to Himself? May it be so!

May we be ever more conformed to and draw ever closer to THE LORD JESUS CHRIST – the one who will reign forever and ever, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Savior of the world, HALLELUJAH! May we surrender ourselves utterly to HIM as He changes us FOR HIS GLORY, AMEN!
