“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”” John 13:34-35
Exhausted. Run down. Weary. Down. Years of trials. Long ago ones. Ongoing ones. Recent ones. Sometimes we just can’t help but get worn down. I was that day. So very much so. Trudging down the street in extremely hot weather with two of my dogs after a short walk. Too down to help anyone else which I so love to do. That’s when the phone rang.
15 minutes on the phone with a beloved sister in the Lord. She told me afterward the Lord had prompted her to call me right then. We talked. She listened. And listened. Then she prayed. She helped take the burden off my shoulders and lift it up to the Lord. My trials weren’t over when we got off the phone. I still had much to face. But God had sent a friend who was willing to sacrifice 15 minutes of her life that made all the difference to me. I felt her love in those minutes. I felt God’s love in those minutes. And I know He heard her cries for me.
Do you suppose we need to make a greater effort, you and I, to seek the Lord, to listen for His voice, and to sacrifice our hearts and time for others who could use love, encouragement, prayer, a listening ear, a hug, godly counsel, to hear about the Lord, etc.?
I believe we do. Let’s keep our hearts and ears attuned to the Lord and make ourselves more available to be used by Him to love others in His name.
