“Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.” Deut. 13:4 KJV

Just days into being back in the Hilton Head area, SC, where I lived for years, this time in a little hotel with a wonderful warm and welcoming staff I so love, I realized how easy it would be to stay there and postpone my big upcoming move to the Florida Panhandle where the Lord was calling me next to go and do my ministry work.

All I had to do was make a few phone calls and change hotel reservations and let my SC hotel know I wanted to stay longer. Not just a few days longer so my beloved paralyzed Mr. Simeon could finish being treated for a major medical issue, but so I could continue to enjoy the comfortable life of being in familiar territory with loved ones nearby, the beach near me, everything known, feeling secure, comfy, etc.

I had no human being over me to tell me what to do. It would have been virtually effortless to change my plans – so I could cleave to the comfy. Cling to the familiar. Hold on to what most pleased my flesh. But I knew better. For though I have no human being over me in my ministry work, nor over my life since I am purposely single for Christ, I have one over me who matters more than anyone and anything and most certainly even than myself. Than self. The Lord Jesus Christ. My Savior, my Lord, my master, my redeemer and King. My everything. The one who will reign forevermore!

And the Lord wants me – and you – to CLEAVE TO HIM – not to the comfortable. He wants ALL OF US to CLING TO HIM and not to the familiar. Not to the known. Not to what makes us feel good. Not to what pleases the flesh. Not to the pleasures and treasures of this life. Not to live for self. But to CLEAVE TO HIM. And TO HIS WORD. And to HIS WILL for our lives.

I faced a crossroads. Stay where I was for as long as I wanted to please myself – or seek the Lord, wait on the Lord, hear from the Lord, and follow Him forward as soon as He wanted me to go.

I knew what to do. Because Jesus Christ is my Savior. And because Jesus Christ IS MY LORD. He is LORD OF THE UNIVERSE. FOREVER. And believers in Him who are promised everlasting life with Him instead of eternity apart from God in hell and the lake of fire ARE TO LOVE AND WORSHIP AND OBEY GOD. NOW AND FOREVER. Not to LOVE AND WORSHIP AND OBEY THE FLESH. We are to LIVE FOR CHRIST and NOT TO LIVE FOR SELF.

There is a cost to the flesh when we follow Jesus. The cost is death to the flesh. It hurts and is hard to say no to me, me, me. But there is nothing more beautiful and wonderful and amazing in the universe than the LORD JESUS CHRIST, than being in His forever fellowship, and being devoted to faithfully follow Him by CLEAVING TO HIM AND TO THE BIBLE and letting His glorious Spirit lead us forth. For the glory of the Lord, YES!

CLEAVE TO THE LORD, friend, CLEAVE TO THE LORD. And CLEAVE TO HIS WORD! CLEAVE TO THE BIBLE! LIVE FOR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, oh, yes, LIVE FOR HIM! Do not cleave to the comfy. Do not cleave to self and to living for you. CLEAVE TO HIM! LIVE FOR THE LORD WHO DIED ON THE CROSS AND WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD SO ALL WHO REPENT AND BELIEVE HE IS THE SON OF GOD AND IS LORD AND DIED ON THE CROSS AND WAS RESURRECTED, TRULY TURNING TO GOD AND HIS WAYS, IS PROMISED EVERLASTING LIFE WITH HIM. HALLELUJAH!
